There are a number of methods by which a rifle can be dated, or at least bracketed between certain years of manufacture. For the latter, dates of introduction of military arms can be located within the Government “List of Changes” LoCs as can dates of obsolescence and of modification or upgrade to later marks. You may not necessarily find specific date information within the text of particular pages, but often the images of advertisements or catalogue entries contain some dating ‘give-away’, such as the year in which a particular rifle achieved a notable competition score by someone, but which data is in graphic format and therefore not “searchable” by a text search engine. Do not briefly glance over a page and assume that the information you require is not there. It may not be immediately obvious, but careful observation may provide you with the information for which you are looking. Such research is a major part of the joy of owning, collecting and shooting classic or historic rifles. Anschutz target rifles fall into this category, and their system is given on the page for these rifles. Quite apart from such dating information as we have been able to provide on many of the individual rifle types included on this website, there are other ways in which you may be able to confirm the date of manufacture, or at least the date of proof, of your rifle.

The act required that many printed materials in the colonies be produced on stamped paper produced in London and carrying an embossed revenue stamp. The purpose of the tax was to help pay for troops stationed in North America. The British government felt that the colonies were the primary beneficiaries of this military presence, and the colonial population should pay at least a portion of the expense. The colonists claimed their constitutional rights were violated, since only their own colonial legislatures could levy taxes.

Some opponents of the Stamp Act distinguished between “internal” taxes like the stamp duty, which they claimed Parliament had no right to impose, and revenue legitimately raised through the regulation on trade. The rallying cry of ” No Taxation without Representation ” reflected an increasingly major grievance that led to the American Revolution. Colonial assemblies sent petitions and protests.

Local protest groups, led by colonial merchants and landowners, established connections through correspondence — the so-called ” Committees of Correspondence — that created a loose coalition extending from New England to Georgia. British goods were boycotted. Custom houses and tax collectors were attacked. A word used frequently by colonists was “liberty” during the Stamp Act upheaval.

Opponents of the new tax staged mock funerals in which “liberty’s” coffin was carried to a burial ground. They insisted that liberty could not be “taken away without consent. Otis, the radical leader in Massachusetts, convinced the Massachusetts assembly to send a circular letter to the other colonies, which called for an inter-colonial meeting to plan tempered resistance.

Companies located outside the UK who have reproduced items, and tried to use a facsimile of the marks or numbering system have been sued, and have had sanctions imposed against them. Pros and Cons Rolex Case Back Stamps Used Inside Vintage Rolex Watches One of the things that are so rewarding about this website is the ability to compile data over a long time period and present it in a way that has so far not being available to collectors, either in book form or online. Here, it should be possible to identify a subject and create a pool of knowledge relating to it, forming a lasting record that enthusiasts can keep returning back to whenever they wish.

As far as we are aware, nobody has ever tried to put these into strict chronological sequence before, so this exercise is venturing into uncharted territory. Hopefully, it should be useful as an aid to weeding out those watches that have wildly different case back markings to others from the same year, this suggesting that they merit further scrutiny to confirm their originality. It seems most logical to structure this section so that the chart itself is accessible with a minimum number of clicks in order that returning browsers can refer back to it in the most direct fashion.

However, it is the first form of case back marking used by the company that would go on to become Rolex, hence it makes a logical point at which to begin this research.

They were making pipes at least as early as the s their Dublin shop opened in and in many of the shapes we now associate with Peterson since the Kapp Brothers simply took their existing shapes and incorporated Charles Peterson’ s patented design into them.

Explanation of Title The vagaries of Peterson’s processes do not allow for an accurate dating guide so this guide is a ‘rule-of-thumb’ guide only. For example; Peterson did not take up the old Country of Manufacture stamps as new ones were issued so depending on which one the various workers happen to pick up, the stamps can and do cross over the boundaries of the various Eras.
